The Coffee Party Proposal:

Hypothesis: There are too many systems here in these United States which are in a mess. There are too many of these systems to address in a piecemeal approach. We, the people, cannot trust the politicians to fix these problems.

Therefore, we propose the following:

  • Term limits for ALL elected officials.
  • Medicare and Social Security for ALL citizens of the United States.
  • Public campaign financing for ALL elected officials.
    • Elimination of tax deductibility for ALL campaign donations.
    • Elimination of 501-type organizations’ ability to participate in public elections.

As a result of adopting these proposals we would expect to experience the following:Elected officials, playing under the same rules as their constituents, would fix the SS and Medicare systems.
  • Elected officials would be strongly incented to “do the right things” for their constituents instead of doing the right things in order to be re-elected.
  • Public financing, et al, would minimize wasteful expenditures for advertising; eliminate, hopefully, the drumbeat of attack advertising; and allow charitable organizations to focus on their real purpose for existing, charities.
